In the heart of Galicia, in the northwest corner of Spain, lies the Rías Baixas wine growing region.
Far from the traditional travel poster image of Spain-hot, aridand dry-Galicia is known for its mild, maritime climate, coastline serrated by estuaries, called rías, and its ever-present sea.
Albariño is the grape varietal which makes up 90% of all the vines planted in the region.
Albariño wines from Rías Baixas, with their rich fruit aromas and lively acidity, are ready to drink upon release, but also have a structure and complexity that allows for aging up to three years. With a flavor intensity sure to please even the most ardent red wine lover, these wines are at home with a wide range of dishes, from their classic pairing with seafood to Asian fare or salsa and chips.
The contest is this: Submit a recipe and describe, in 50 words or less, why a glass of Rías Baixas Albariño wine is the perfect match to your dish. The recipe should consist of no more than 10, readily available ingredients.
This doesn't sound too difficult!
Just think of all the fun kitchen gadgets, pots and pans, books and tableware you could buy with $1000 at Williams-Sonoma!
(unfortunately that's not enough to buy one of these)
The contest ends midnight EST, October 31, 2007.
