The revolution is spreading!

Remember the news about school cafeterias on their way to serving healthy food? There's more of the same!
Schools in Arizona, Oklahoma, Michigan and Tennessee, and Texas are implementing an automated system that lets parents determine what their children eat in school through their prepaid lunch accounts. It is a voluntary monitoring system which gives parents online access to modify their children's lunches.
In California, the Santa Clara Unified School District might just totally ban junk food in all elementary and high schools. This is after the Student Wellness Committee composed of parents, students, teachers, administrators and members of the public, found that the district's current diet policies were contributing to student obesity and poor academic performance.
On the hit list are sugary beverages like soft drinks and Gatorade-type drinks, sweets like candies, cookies and chips. Students will only be served water, milk, fruit and vegetable juices. The District will get rid of vending machines and candy sales for fund-raisers.
If approved by the District, the policy will take effect in July. This is one of the strictest School District policies that I know of! I'll be following this closely.
