The dreaded time has come, forced by too quick years and too incessant pleading: your teenager is to become a driver, settling behind the steering wheel and challenging the road. You are naturally horrified -- not just from the possible worries that come with inexperienced youth but also from the inevitable rise in your insurance. Few institutions look favorably upon teen drivers and you're certain the cost will be high. It doesn't have to be. There are ways to appease your auto insurance company and your bills. You can seek out the much needed discounts without sacrificing your sanity.
1. Prove safety: Teen drivers are often accused of being dangerous: too easily distracted and too easily overwhelmed. A solid reputation therefore will help to improve your chances for lowered premiums. Stress the value of safety to your child to ease the burden. Those with a flawless record will be rewarded.
2. Offer precautions: Your child wants a pretty car with a monstrous engine. You obviously cannot agree. And, while the reason should always be to ensure a better defense against potential accidents, parents can also take deductibles into account: teens with safe cars and multiple protections will be given lesser rates. Choose vehicles with outstanding rankings to see prices drop.
3. Seek out education: Teens will wail against the notion of more schooling; but you will quickly learn the value of it. Those who take outside courses in driving will be given preference. This will lead to immediate (and often high) discounts.
4. Combine policies: It is often recommended that you place your child under the care of your own insurance package. This offers more stability and can help to decrease rates (rather than forcing you to pay a separate fee).
Your insurance can be a challenge. Finding ways to soften its costs, however, can be accomplished with good sense and reliability.
