Ivonne at Cream Puffs in Venice is hosting the 35th edition of Sugar High Fridays, "an event to celebrate all that is sweet in our lives."
The theme ingredient: The beautiful fig.
What a perfect choice! Figs are succulent and sweet on their own, so even the simplest of preparations brings out their luscious flavors.

I chose to simply broil the figs in a brandy, honey and cinnamon sauce. The fig's texture remained intact and the fig's sweetness was complimented by the honey.
Brandy and Honey Figs
serves 4
a dozen ripe figs
3 tablespoons butter, divided into 12 pieces
6 tablespoons clear, mild flavored honey
4 tablespoons brandy
1 ½ teaspoons ground cinnamon
a handful chopped, shelled almonds (optional)
a dollop of mascarpone for each serving
Pre-heat broiler to medium.
Wash and pat dry each fig.
Cut a cross down the center of each fig, without cutting all the way through, and gently open like a flower.
Put a piece of butter in the center of each fig and place in a baking dish.
Drizzle the brandy over, followed by the honey.
Sprinkle the cinnamon over, followed by the optional almonds.
Broil about 5-10 minutes or until the brandy, butter and honey have made a nice, sticky sauce in the bottom of the baking dish.
Serve warm, with mascarpone.

Ivonne, Thanks! I love simple fruit desserts in which you can still taste the fruit's pure flavor. Figs were a perfect theme ingredient!
