Storing Fresh Produce
Filed in archive Tricks & Techniques on November 6, 2006
Here's another tip if you are like me who buys in bulk but more often than not cooks for one.
When buying fruits and vegetables, try to purchase them in varying degrees of ripeness. You don't want to have to eat the whole bunch in a day or two then have nothing for the rest of the week.
When storing greens, Roots and fruits like apples and pears in the crisper, make sure they are dry then wrap in paper towels or old newspapers. Check the wrappings every few days and change them as they absorb wetness. Tomatoes will keep long if you wrap them this way then place in a large sealable container. Lemons too.
