S'mores
Filed in archive Traditions on August 11, 2008
All of my memories of summer camp include one thing. S'mores. (well, two things, actually - a multitude of mosquito bites also stands out)
Blistering hot, oozing marshmallows and melting Hershey's chocolate sandwiched between crunchy graham crackers. I can just taste it!
Every year upon our return from camp, my sister and I would try to replicate the flavor of Campfire s'mores by heating up marshmallows in the microwave. Without the smoke and the inevitable blackened and burnt spots, the flavor just isn't the same.

For proper s'mores you need five things.
Marshmallows. We grew up with Jet Puffed so I think they are the best.
Hershey's Milk Chocolate bars. Yes, it must be Hershey's.
Graham crackers. Any brand is acceptable.
A campfire.
A long stick for charring toasting the marshmallows.
Instructions for making s'mores:
Break a graham cracker rectangle in half to create two squares.
Break off a square of chocolate to fit on one graham cracker square.
Toast a marshmallow or two over a campfire.
Place the hot marshmallow(s) on the chocolate topped graham cracker square.
Smash the other graham cracker square down on the marshmallow, creating a sandwich.
Eat and try not to burn your tongue!
