Rachel Ray Empowers Kids To Cook
Filed in archive From Garden to Table , People Who Cook on May 18, 2010
Star TV chef and book author Rachel Ray has joined New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg on Thursday at a Brooklyn school - one of 25 in the city that have built their own gardens "to empower kids to cook and have a healthier relationship with food.
Rahel Ray is helping create menus for 1,600 city public schools where students are also being about taught cooking and nutrition. This effort in New York City is part of a national campaign against childhood obesity led by first lady Michelle Obama, who helped Washington schoolchildren create a White House garden.
The city program in New York has a goal of creating 50 school gardens by next year and is supported by Rachel Ray's Yum-o! Organization together with government, private and community nonprofit funds.
