Promoting the Potato

Filed in archive Morsels of Info by Jennifer on September 15, 2007

The United Nations has declared 2008 to be the International Year of the Potato. To mark this noteworthy year, the Slow Food Organization of France is also promoting the humble potato on it's first ever Slow Food Day, today September 15.

I'm spending the morning in Narbonne with my friend Riana at the covered market, les Halles, handing out information about Slow Food and helping to hand out 50 kilos of free, cooked spuds with different toppings to the shoppers. There will also be a quiz with prizes and a contest for the best recipe using, you guessed it, potatoeslinks!

Slow Food
is a fascinating organization, with chapters, or conviviums as they're called, all over the world. Any group that promotes protecting the tradition, culture and pleasure of food is a group after my own heart.
