Pick Your Own
It's pick-your-own season again! This pic was taken in Carlsbad, California. A closer look revealed heavy clusters of large, ripe, red strawberries just underneath those green leaves. We weren't there for strawberry-picking and was just passing through, but this put me in the mood for some pick-your-own trips back here at home. You know what that means, don't you? Canning season has also begun!

To see a list of pick-your-own farms near you, click through to the Pick Your Own website, where you'll find a comprehensive list of farms, growing all manner of fruit and vegetables. The listings are mostly US-based, though there is a growing number of listings for the UK, Canada, etc.

Trawling around the 'net, I discovered a few more:

Garsons in the UK
A Canadian listing
Farma in UK
If you are in Melbourne, Australia
La Pommeraine, in France
Podere Le Corone, in Italy (olives)

Another tip: when traveling, look for agritourism farms. Google "farm holidays" and that should take you to listings all over the world. If you go at harvest season, you just might be able to join the locals and help out!
