Yes, you can use the Microplane grater as a zester too, but there are some preparations when I want the zest to be a little coarser than what you can get using the Microplane, and vice-versa, so I keep both tools in my most-often-used drawer. The Microplane, of course, is the #1 tool of choice for hard cheeses, if you like the fine, ethereal cheese gratings that it produces. I love it for grating ginger as well, especially if I need it to make ginger juice. Both are equipped with user-friendly handles. A must for every serious cook who has to have the right tools for the job. And perfect for gift-giving of course!
