Maybe I Just Don't Get It...

Filed in archive Food for Thought on February 26, 2008

Food is a pleasure to our senses: its texture, its aroma, its visual appeal and most importantly, its flavor.

True flavor is what I seek when I buy food. So, imagine my dismay at discovering something called a Grapple when I was in the States earlier this month. It's an apple that is made to taste like a grape. Huh?
Why?

I just don't get it.

If you want the flavor of an apple, eat an apple. If you want the flavor of grapes, eat grapes. Why on earth would you combine the two?
Apparently this is the reason:
With childhood obesity increasing at alarming rates, Grāpple® brand apples could go a long way to improving the eating habits of children and introducing them to more produce.
If you want your children to eat more produce, wouldn't you want them to eat both apples and grapes, separately?

What's next? strawberry flavored chicken?

I decided to take their survey to let them know just what I thought about their product.
