March at the Farmer's Market

Filed in archive From Garden to Table by Jennifer on March 03, 2008

The month of March already? Hard to believe that for many of us, winter is pretty much over. (If you're still buried under piles of snow, don't despair, it will melt soon!)

The softness of spring is in the air, bringing with it an array of new produce at the Farmers Markets.

At their peak this month are citrus fruit such as navel oranges, lemons, limes and tangerines. If you're lucky, you'll find the first of the season's sweet strawberries and tangy rhubarb.
Also new to the market in March are morel mushrooms, spring peas and spring green garlic,.
Tender, tasty greens are perfect now! Choose from mustard, collards, young spinach, turnip and dandelion.
Cauliflower, potatoes, carrots, cabbage and fennellinks are also at their prime.
