June at the Farmer's Market

As the first day of summer approaches, the array of fresh produce available at the Farmer's Markets is amazing!

Tomatoes of all shapes and sizes are appearing as are vibrant green zucchini and sweet, golden yellow summer squash. Tempting ears of corn and pale cucumbers are coming into season as are globe artichokes and heavy, fat eggplant.
Raspberries, gooseberries, ollalieberries and boysenberries are showing up in different regions and lush, ripe melons are finally making an appearance. Nectarines, peaches and apricots are new to the markets as are succulent figs and grapes.
We say goodbye to rhubarb, sweet onions, peas and beets this month. I'll look forward to their short season next spring.

Hi Loulou..your markets are sooo tempting, could just buy it all. I love all the different sizes and colours instead of the uniform size and colour we get here..one thing I like in France or Italy , that a tomato not only looks like one, but it smells and tastes like one!!!

The outdoor food markets are one of my favorite things about living here. Our closest market town is only 5 minutes away. The summer is much busier, but there is so much more produce available!
