Here in Languedoc-Roussillon, the vin primeur will be brought out and sampled in town squares, at wineries and in bars. It is the Fête des Vins Primeurs and we're looking forward to a weekend of tasting the new wine!

If you're in Louisiana this weekend, head on over to the 36th Annual Louisiana Gumbo Festival in Chackbay, Louisiana, for dancing, great music and fabulous Gumbo. Laissez Les Bon Temps Rouler!
Also in Louisiana is one of America's oldest agricultural festivals, held since 1937, The International Rice Festival, in Crowley, Louisiana.
Just down the road in Florida is the Boggy Bayou Mullet Fest in Niceville, Florida. I'm not talking about the horrible hairstyle, rather, a fish, the striped mullet. They're also celebrating the mullet in Gautier, Mississippi at the 17th Annual Gautier Mullet Festival. This is one popular fish!
The town which holds the World Record for the most jack-o-lanterns in one place is holding their annual Pumpkin Festival this Saturday. Keane, New Hampshire holds eight World Records, the last one was granted in 2003 when they had 28,952 jack-o-lanterns gathered in the town center. Will they break their own record this year?
St. Mary's County, Maryland is celebrating the oyster this weekend at the St. Mary's County Oyster Festival. The festival includes an oyster cook-off contest, an oyster shucking contest, live music and enjoyment for all!
Vin de primeur. Called nouveau wines, these wines are made to be consumed young. They are authorized to be sold on the third Thursday of November for AOC wines and the third Thursday in October for Vins de Pays.

The celebration brings attention to the importance of rice as food and also emphasizes it's place in the world's economic picture. There are 2 parades, Friday (Children's Day), which is the Children's Parade, and Saturday, the Grand Parade. There are also Special Events including the Rice Cooking Contest, Rice Eating Contest, Farmers Banquet and also the Queens Ball.
