Around The Kitchen
by karen on July 31, 2006

No, no, no! The pain ointment has not suddenly come up with an edible line. It's just that I find myself with aches and pains all over after a day out preparing a garden for planting. Of course, a day wasn't enough - I think not even a month will be enough! I'm getting ahead of myself now.
With all this blogging I've become more adventurous in the Kitchen. There are probably hundreds of recipes I would love to experiment on. Lots of times though, I get frustrated at the unavailability of ingredients - whether there's totally nothing or I can't get the variety that I want. Sometimes I wish I had a farm at my disposal so I can plant whatever I want, like all those rootcrops that grow all year round but only seem to be in the marketplace a few months when I don't need them.
I've also been reading Kitchen Gardeners and Culiblog for quite a while now and I am green with envy when I read about their greens, hehehe! Later realised there's a small parcel of land I can utilise for the same purpose. And so there I was, pulling and digging my way towards a decent vegetable garden.
My first objective is to build a nursery for seedlings I'd be planting. It needs a lot of work and this weekend I need to get some lumber and chicken wire to secure my nursery otherwise the neighbours' free-range chickens will just feast on my precious seeds. And then I'll have to replant a few rootcrops I found growing wild all over the place - cassava, yams and sweet potatoes.
Am excited but right now I have to rest - and reach for that tube of Bengay.
