Balut anyone?
Filed in archive Gourmet Goodies on September 25, 2005

When I first read about a Filipino delicacy called Balut over at I Heart Bacon, I wasn't sure I was understanding it correctly but a little searching revealed more information from Asia Cuisine.
Balut is a partially fertilized duck egg, boiled and eaten as a snack. The eggs need to be carefully selected because the best ones will contain a beak and feathers. According to Asia Cuisine:
A combination of saltiness and tartness, softness and crunchiness, a sensation of sweetness, the degree of resistance to the bite, the viscosity and stickiness are the rewards.
Have you ever tried Balut? How was it?

Ruth - thanks for that link. I'll be sure to check it out. Know what? This blog is still being put together for it's launch later this week and we aren't even "really live" yet. You're our first commenter ever! A big plate of Balut for you! Thanks for stopping by. :-)
