Apples of my eye

I admit, each time I see apples, I just want to have them all. I can eat them all day! Well, it's autumn in the northern hemishphere and it's the season for apples. I see them featured on a lot of food blogs and threads on newsgroups. I won't be surprised if they organise an apple bake-off or cook-off one of these days.

Do you know that the apple became the symbol for the forbidden fruit because it looks too seductive, among other things? Well, I don't blame whoever was responsible for it. An apple always seems too sensuous, whether by looks, smell or taste.

One of the most interesting ways to cook the fruit I've read about so far is of fried apples. Hmmm... I've never had them that way before. Someone on a newsgroup I read says they're best for breakfast served with sausages and bacon. Hmmm... and there are days I'd be happy to have a breakfast of an apple and a glass of fruit juice!

I haven't seen a lot of fried apple recipes on the blogs but Meg Hourihan of megnut fame has one from last year. She recently took some fruits to a frying party. Over at Andrea's Recipe Box, Andrea shares her Southern Fried Apples. The two recipes vary a bit but both have cinnamon and sugar in them. Sounds good to me!
